Melrose, NY (May 2, 2019) – Police have announced the arrest of a 60-year-old man who has been accused of raping a child at a daycare in the Bronx multiple times over a period of four years. Alberto Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday, May 1st, for the incidents which were reported to have occurred at the Maria Cortez Family Daycare facility on Heath Avenue, according to authorities.
Police stated that the alleged rapes happened over the course of four years, starting when the child was 6 until she was 10-years-old. Hernandez and his wife operated the daycare for the last 25 years, according to investigators who began looking into the allegations after the victim, who is now 13, reported the abuse on Monday, April 29th.
Hernandez is currently facing 13 charges, including rape, predatory sexual assault, and criminal sex act. At this time, investigators are working to determine whether or not there are more victims out there. Anyone with any information is being encouraged to come forward.
