East Flatbush, NY (April 16, 2019) – On Tuesday, April 16th, police announced the arrest of a Brooklyn elementary teacher who has been accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old female student, according to authorities. Police stated that 29-year-old Daniel Santiago, a teacher at the Brooklyn Science and Engineering Academy, has been charged with sexual abuse and acting in a manner to injure a child under the age of 17.
According to police, the investigation into Santiago started after rumors surfaced when other students were reported to have witnessed inappropriate behavior. The initial rumors led Santiago’s suspension, at which point investigators interviewed the young girl who admitted to sexual contact. Police stated that the abuse began in February of this year and included sexual contact along with inappropriate text messages and pictures.
The entire extent of the relationship between Santiago and the victim has not been made clear as the investigation continues at this time.
