Jones Act is a federal law that protects workers at sea. To be protected by the Jones Act, you have to spend at least 30% of your time working on a vessel in navigable waters. If you’re covered by the Jones Act, what it does is it allows you to sue your employer for any negligence of the owner of the boat, the captain, and the crew. And that can include any defects with the boar that make it unseaworthy.
