What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer. There are two types of mesothelioma. One is pleural mesothelioma. The pleura is the sac that surrounds all of our lungs. If a person breathes in asbestos fibers, those fibers can be attached to the pleura, and over the course of a number of years, this can develop into pleural mesothelioma. The second type of mesothelioma which is a bit less common is perotineal mesothelioma. That’s the area that surrounds our stomach.
Symptoms of perotineal mesothelioma is an enlarged, bloated stomach, pain. Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are shortness of breath, the feeling of heaviness or tightness in your chest, or just a general feeling of being tired, being rundown. The only known cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. Surprisingly, a person can be exposed to asbestos fibers and 20,30, even 40 years later can be diagnosed.
It’s important that you hire an attorney that has experience handling asbestos cases, because they can help you to determine where it was that you or someone in your family worked around asbestos-containing products and determine the possible manufacturers of the products that this person could have used or that this person could have worked around. And in that way, then, if a person chooses to file a claim, there are individual companies, corporations that are responsible for these claims.
