Revive Superfoods – Tara Flour Food Poisoning

Revive Superfoods recently removed their Mango and Pineapple smoothies from their website over safety concerns about an ingredient in the smoothie known as tara flour.

Numerous Revive Superfoods customers who purchased the Mango and Pineapple smoothie have reported falling ill after consuming the drink.

Zandi Holup, a country singer and influencer who was offered the chance to promote Revive Superfoods products on social media, told ABC7 News I-Team reporter Melanie Woodrow that she became sick after drinking the smoothie and had to be hospitalized four separate times. She stated that she suffered from severe symptoms, including liver problems.

Tara flour is a plant-based protein that is also used as an ingredient in another recently-recalled food product, Daily Harvest’s French Lentil + Leek Crumbles. Many customers and influencers became ill after consuming Daily Harvest’s crumbles and suffered from symptoms including liver issues, dark urine, fever, stomach pain, headaches, and nausea. Some had to visit the emergency room or be hospitalized. Daily Harvest has confirmed that the cause of the illnesses was tara flour, though it should be noted that Daily Harvest and Revive Superfoods source their tara flour from different producers.

While Revive Superfoods removed the Pineapple and Mango smoothie from its menu and has tested its tara flour for pathogens and toxins, some have alleged that the company did not do enough to warn customers about the potential dangers associated with products they may still have in their freezers.
