Staten Island, NY – Worker Injured by Chemical Exposure at Water Treatment Facility in Oakwood

Staten Island, NY (June 25, 2019) – An injurious incident was reported to have occurred at 7:57 a.m. at the Department of Environmental Protection water-treatment facility located in Oakwood, Staten Island, on Tuesday morning, June 25th. Authorities stated that a worker suffered injuries after being exposed to a chemical at the facility.

According to a spokesman for the FDNY, an unidentified employee at the Oakwood Beach Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility, located at 751 Mill Road, came into contact with a dangerous chemical substance. The victim was transported to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze to be treated.

Authorities stated that the victim suffered minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital. The exact cause of the exposure has not been reported at this time, and the incident may likely be under continuous investigation.
