Sharon, NY – Man from Schoharie County Arrested for Rape and Evidence Tampering
Sharon, NY (June 25, 2019) – Police have stated that a man from Sharon has been arrested and accused of raping a child under the age of 17. According to authorities, once the suspect was aware of the investigation, he allegedly discarded an electronic device that is believed to have held evidence against him.
40-year-old Jason T. Chase is currently being accused of disseminating obscene material, as well as engaging in a course of sexual conduct with a minor, according to a spokeswoman for the state police. Chase faces one count of rape and one count of tampering with physical evidence, both of which are felonies. He is also facing the misdemeanor charges of obscenity and child endangerment.
Chase was arrested and has since been arraigned in court and is being held on $4,000 cash bail. No further information has been released.
