Marbletown, NY – Three Injured in Crash Involving Two Ulster County Sheriff Vehicles

Marbletown, NY (June 13, 2019) – A collision between two Ulster County Sheriff vehicles sent three people to the hospital on Tuesday morning, June 11th. According to police, the crash occurred around 11:00 a.m. along Lucas Avenue.

Deputy Sheriff Robert Shamro was reported to have been traveling in an unmarked Sheriff vehicle when he stopped another driver for unspecified traffic violations. Deputy Shamro had the driver of that vehicle exit the car for an interview as Corrections Officer James Wenzel was traveling along the same road.

Wenzel was operating a marked Ulster County Sheriff Vehicle when he rear-ended the deputy’s vehicle. The impact of the collision forced the vehicle that was struck to hit both Shamro and the man he was interviewing at the scene. According to state police, all three individuals involved were promptly taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. All injuries appear to have been non-life-threatening at this time.
