Sheldon, NY – Update: Adult Victims of Collision that Killed Three Identified
Sheldon, NY (May 28, 2019) – The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office has now released the identities of the adult victims who were involved in the tragically fatal collision that took place on Sunday morning, May 26th. The collision was a result of an intoxicated driver who ran a stop sign at the intersection of Route 20A and Maxon Road.
Richard Sawicki, 20, of Lackawanna, was determined to be the intoxicated driver of a Dodge truck who crashed into a minivan that was carrying a family of nine people from New Jersey to Niagara Falls. The crash sadly killed three people, including a 4-year-old child, and injured two others.
Police have now identified the two deceased adults as 47-year-old Odina Castro De La Cruz and 32-year-old Mayelin Brito-Castro. The identity of the 4-year-old is being withheld. The identities of the two injured adult passengers have been confirmed as 55-year-old Reyes Rodriguez and 26-year-old Maria Brito-Castro.
Sawicki was arrested and charged with DWI, aggravated vehicular homicide, and reckless driving. He is being held at Wyoming County Jail on $100,000 bail.
