Greenwich Village, Manhattan, NY (May 21, 2019) – A serious unsafe property accident occurred on Monday evening, May 20th, when a woman was struck by a falling tree branch in Washington Square Park. The incident was reported to have occurred around 7:40 p.m. approximately 150 feet east of Washington Square West.
According to authorities, a 55-year-old woman from Crozet, VA, was sitting on a park bench when a large tree branch fell from a tree and struck her. The impact of the tree branch caused the woman to suffer a fractured skull and a fractured spine, as well as a cut on the back of her head. Emergency crews were called to the scene and the woman was promptly taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.
The woman’s 19-year-old son was with her at the time but was not hurt during the incident. The incident is believed to have been an unfortunate accident. However, it remains under investigation, according to police.
