Staten Island, NY (May 20, 2019) – A serious fire broke out at a junkyard on Richmond Terrace in Mariners Harbor on Monday morning, May 20th, resulting in injured responders. According to the FDNY, the fire was called in around 10:00 a.m. at the junkyard located at 3333 Richmond Terrace, in the vicinity of Arlington Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found approximately 20 or 30 vehicles on fire. Several of the vehicles were stacked on top of one another, many of which still had fuel in their gas tanks. That, coupled with limited access from within the property, as well as from Richmond Terrace, made the fire a tremendously difficult situation to control.

At least 125 firefighters from 25 units responded to the blaze, which took almost two and a half hours to contain. EMS was also at the scene where at least three firefighters suffered injuries due to the problems accessing the fire. The conditions of those victims have not been reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
