Castleton Corners, NY – Update: Police Identify 89-Year-Old Woman Killed in Staten Island Hit-and-Run
Castleton Corners, NY (April 23, 2019) – Police have released the identity of the 89-year-old woman who was tragically struck and killed by a motor vehicle that fled the scene on Saturday night, April 20th. Anastasia Diaz was reported to have been using the crosswalk on Bradley Avenue at Purdy Avenue to walk across the street when she was hit by the vehicle at approximately 10:30 p.m., according to authorities.
New information released by police also includes video footage of the vehicle involved. Officers have now stated that the car which struck and killed Diaz is an older model, two-tone Toyota Sienna. The driver of that vehicle fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities.
At the scene, emergency medical crews were immediately summoned and arrived to find Diaz unconscious and unresponsive with severe body and head trauma, according to police. She was promptly transported to Richmond University Medical Center, where she was sadly pronounced deceased.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and no arrests have been made.
