Long Island, NY – Reverend Killed in Crash with Impaired Driver in Town of Oyster Bay
Long Island, NY (April 19, 2019) – A driver who was allegedly on drugs was reported to have caused a collision on the Southern State Parkway that resulted in the death of one man. The fatal collision took place shortly after midnight on Friday, April 19th, according to authorities.
The two-car collision happened on the Parkway, just west of exit 30, prompting responses from New York State Police alongside emergency medical crews. According to authorities, Christopher Gomez-Almendarez had been traveling westbound when he crashed into the rear end of a GMC being operated by Rev. T. C. Mammen, 69, of North Bellmore. The impact of the collision forced the GMC off the roadway and into the trees.
Emergency medical responders immediately rushed Rev. Mammen to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Gomez-Almendarez was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and third-degree assault, as well as driving while ability impaired by drugs.
