Far Rockaway, Queens, NY – Update: Child Struck by School Bus Died of Injuries
Far Rockaway, Queens, NY (April 18, 2019) – A tragic story concerning a child who was struck and critically injured in a collision involving his own school bus on Wednesday afternoon, April 17th, has been updated with more information. Police have now stated that 7-year-old Cameron Brown struck by a van that pinned him between the vehicle and his school bus around 3:00 p.m. on Gipson Street. Brown sadly died as a result of this accident.
According to authorities, the child had just gotten off his school bus when he was attempting to cross the street behind it. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old driver of a van mistook the gas for the brake pedal and drove forward, subsequently pinning Brown between the van and the bus. Emergency medical crews were immediately dispatched to the accident site, where they declared Brown to be in seriously critical condition. They transported the boy to a nearby hospital while performing CPR.
Tragically, Brown succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Both the driver of the van and the bus operator remained at the scene, where Brown’s mother had been waiting for her son. The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time.
