Yonkers, NY – Five Firefighters Injured in Waste Management Fire

Yonkers, NY (April 13, 2019) – Police responded to the scene of a Waste Management fire that took place around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at 325 Yonkers Avenue on Tuesday and fire was sent soaring through the building due to the harsh, windy conditions at the time of the incident.

When firefighters arrived, they found a volume of fire that started due to garbage. The fire was finally under control around 2:38 p.m.

Five firefighters were seriously injured in the fire and taken to the hospital for treatment. Up to 60 firefighters from 13 fire companies responded to the incident.

The fire was so severe that police closed the roadway at Yonkers Avenue in both directions for quite some time. Police are still investigating the circumstances that led up to the fire.
