Islandia, NY – Woman Struck in Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Long Island Expressway
Islandia, NY (April 13, 2019) – Around 6:40 p.m. last night, police responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident that took place on the Long Island Expressway. In the distressing accident, the woman fell from the overpass on Friday evening and was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle.
Police say that the woman, though she has not yet been identified, was in her 50s and suffered severe trauma.
The Long Island Expressway was closed in both directions near exit 58 and Old Nichols Road.
Within hours, the road was reopened. Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.
