Southampton, NY – Corrections Officer Charged with Sexual Abuse of Child
Southampton, NY (April 5, 2019) – A Suffolk County Corrections Officer was arrested for the sexual abuse of a child that took place over the course of several years, according to police. 55-year-old Robert Weis was arrested on Thursday, April 4th, while a 12-year-old boy sat with him in the car at the time.
While Weis was arrested with a young boy in his vehicle, the charges against him pertain to the alleged sexual abuse of a different child, starting when the boy was age 7 until the boy was 16. The abuse was stated to have started in 1996, although the victim did not come forward until last month.
According to prosecutors, the abuse of this child, who had been the son of a friend of Weis, is not an isolated incident. Other victims have come forward alleging that they were abused by Weis during sleepovers at his home in Hampton Bays. Weis had been a practicing foster father for at least 15 years and he faces similar charges from 2016 in South Carolina.
Officials who searched Weis’ home found videos of the abuse which occurred in his basement. Weis, an army veteran, was also in possession of 32 long rifles, three illegal handguns, and over 50,000 rounds of ammunition. The investigation into Weis is ongoing and police are asking any other victims to contact Southampton Town Police at 631-702-2230.
