Stockport, NY – Update: Authorities Release Identity of Man Killed in Train Accident

Stockport, NY (March 27, 2019) – State police have now released the identity of the man who was tragically struck and killed by a train on Tuesday morning, March 26th. 51-year-old David C. Soka, of Austerlitz, was reported to have died after being struck by an Amtrak train near Station Road.

Troopers and emergency medical crews were immediately sent to the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. in order to assess the situation and render aid to any victims. Authorities stated that Soka had been killed on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene near the Stockport trestle, just north of the city of Hudson.

At this time, police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into exactly how Soka ended up on the Amtrak Empire Service line; suicide has not been ruled out as a possibility. No further information has been made available.
