Annadale, NY – 71-Year-Old Man Struck and Killed in Staten Island Pedestrian Crash
Annadale, NY (March 12, 2019) – An elderly man who was tragically struck by a motor vehicle on Saturday, March 9th, has been reported to have passed away from his injuries. 71-year-old Salvatore Pierro, of Annadale, was sadly pronounced dead on Sunday, March 10th, at Staten Island University Hospital, according to authorities.
Police stated that Pierro had been hit by a Jeep Patriot at the intersection of Annadale Road and Arden Avenue at approximately 1:27 p.m. Saturday. Pierro was in the crosswalk while the driver of the Jeep had attempted to make a left turn onto Arden Avenue. Police reported that Pierro suffered severe head trauma after hitting the pavement during the accident.
EMS promptly arrived at the scene and quickly transported Pierro to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He died from his injuries the next day. The driver of the Jeep, identified only as a 17-year-old male, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, although he was taken into custody. The driver is being charged with failure to exercise due care and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is currently involved in an ongoing investigation into the fatal incident. No further details have been provided.
