Eltingville, NY – Update: Victim of Fatal House Fire Identified
Eltingville, NY (March 7, 2019) – Authorities have now released the identity of the elderly man who was tragically killed in a house fire Wednesday evening, March 6th. 86-year-old Henning Kjaer was reported to have been inside of the home at 461 Oakdale Street when a blaze broke out shortly before 7:00 p.m., according to police.
Altogether, 12 FDNY vehicles arrived at the location, along with over 65 firefighters, to battle the flames. Emergency medical crews arrived at the scene, where they transported Kjaer to Staten Island University Hospital in Prince’s Bay. Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Authorities reported that the fire had been contained by around 7:17 p.m., as the investigation began immediately afterward. The FDNY has now stated that the fire was caused by a cooking accident but no further details concerning the incident have been provided.
