Valley Stream, NY – Six Officers and Civilian Injured in Deli Fire
Valley Stream, NY (March 3, 2019) – Six police officers from Nassau County and one civilian were injured in a deli fire that spread to other buildings.
The incident took place at 519 West Merrick Road, at the corner of Dale Place, and caused damages to a shoe store and a jewelry repair business in the area. Six police officers were treated and released from the hospital due to smoke inhalation. A civilian who was identified as a 33-year-old man was taken to the hospital as well and was still in the hospital as of last night. However, he is expected to recover.
Police initially received the call to the fire around 6:10 a.m. They found a male victim calling for help at the back of the deli and used a forcible entry tool to reach him.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
