West Monroe, NY – 77-Year-Old Identified as Victim of Fatal Pedestrian Crash
West Monroe, NY (February 23, 2019) – Earlier, we reported on a fatal pedestrian crash that took place when an unidentified driver struck a pedestrian in upstate New York. Now, police have identified the driver and pedestrian, through their names have not yet been released.
The accident took place in West Monroe when a teenage driver struck and killed the pedestrian, identified as a 77-year-old man who had been in the middle of the roadway at the time. The accident took place last night around 10:30 p.m., according to authorities.
The teen, identified only as a 16-year-old, had been driving north on Route 37 when he noticed a Jeep pulled off on the side of the road. The teen became distracted by the Jeep and was unable to avoid striking the 77-year-old man in the roadway.
When paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident, they pronounced the pedestrian deceased. His name has not yet been released.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash at this time.
