Upper West Side, Manhattan, NY – One Seriously Injured in Fire at Apartment Complex on Broadway

Upper West Side, Manhattan, NY (February 20, 2019) – A 4-alarm fire was reported to have ripped through a seven-story apartment building in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon, February 20. The blaze broke out at around 12:30 p.m. on the third floor of the building located at Broadway and 101st Street on the Upper West Side.

The rapidly-spreading fire prompted responses from 138 firefighters from 33 units, as well as emergency medical crews, who quickly arrived to battle the blaze and render aid to any victims. EMS confirmed that at least one person was injured in the fire, and that person was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. At this time, that victim has been listed in serious but stable condition.

It is unclear as to whether or not anyone else was hurt in the fire, but the Red Cross was reported to be assisting displaced residents. The building suffered severe damage including water, smoke, and sections of the ceiling that fell during the incident.

The official cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
