West Hempstead, NY – 11 Injured in Chain-Reaction Crash on Southern State Parkway
West Hempstead, NY (February 17, 2019) – State Police responded to a chain-reaction crash that led to injuries in 11 people on the Southern State Parkway early Sunday morning. Now, one person has been charged with DWI as a result.
The crash took place between four vehicles around 2:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the parkway. At the time, a Ford Econoline was disabled and stopped in the right lane of the parkway with a Nissan behind it. A Honda Accord didn’t see the Nissan and struck it in the rear, which caused it to fly forward and strike the Ford.
The Honda then lost control and ran into a Toyota Sienna. A total of 11 people within the various vehicles were hospitalized with a variety of injuries.
The driver of the Honda, 31-year-old Tyler Jackson, received the most serious injuries with facial trauma and a pelvic injury. Police say that he had been drinking before the accident. The road was closed down for several hours but has since reopened.
State Police are still investigating and speaking with witnesses.
