Unionport, NY – Hit-and-Run Accident on Havemeyer and Story Avenues Leaves One Dead
Unionport, NY (February 16, 2019) – Police reported that a woman was killed in a hit-and-run accident that took place around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, with police still searching for the responsible driver.
At the time, the 68-year-old unidentified woman had been in the crosswalk at the intersection of Havemeyer and Story Avenues when she was suddenly struck by a school bus.
According to witnesses, the driver of the school bus did not stop his vehicle, nor did he even check on the woman. The woman was quickly transported to the hospital, but was tragically pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
Police believe the driver to be a 66-year-old man. It is unclear if anyone else was on the bus during the incident.
No arrests have been made but police continue to investigate at this time.
