Water Mill, NY – Severe Injuries Suffered in Head-On Collision Between Car and Box Truck on Montauk Highway
Water Mill, NY (February 15, 2019) – A head-on collision between a large box truck and a Volvo was reported along Montauk Highway, a little west of Hayground Road in the town of Water Mill, according to authorities. The crash was stated to have happened at around 12:05 p.m. on Friday afternoon, February 15.
According to Southampton Town Police, the impact of the collision left one person trapped inside their vehicle, prompting responses from heavy rescue crews. Police confirmed that there were two people inside the box truck at the time of the accident, although they were unable to say whether the driver or the passenger were injured.
A Suffolk County Medevac helicopter was initially called to the scene to airlift the severely injured party. However, that plan was canceled due to hazardous weather conditions. After extricating the trapped victim, emergency medical responders transported that person to a nearby hospital via ambulance. The victim sustained serious leg injuries in the crash.
Authorities have not provided any further information concerning the welfare of the other parties involved in the accident. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
