Upper West Side, Manhattan, NY – Two Workers Injured Following Garbage Truck Fire

Upper West Side, Manhattan, NY (February 8, 2019) – Firefighters in the Upper West Side of Manhattan arrived to extinguish a garbage truck fire that broke out and injured two workers on Friday morning, February 8. The incident happened at around 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and West 89th Street.

According to authorities, two Department of Sanitation workers suffered injuries after the rear of their garbage truck became engulfed in flames while they were performing their work duties. The fire started with a small explosion that occurred for reasons that have not been confirmed at this time.

Police were accompanied by paramedics at the site where they transported the two injured workers to a local hospital for treatment. All injuries appear to be minor, according to authorities. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and no further information has been provided.
