Stony Point, NY – Man Pronounced Deceased After Being Burned in Garage Fire

Stony Point, NY (February 2, 2019) – In Stony Point, a man who has now been identified as 84-year-old Matt Waldron lost his life following a garage fire that took place on his property.

We originally reported that the accident took place on Saturday, January 26 around 9:45 a.m. in a detached garage on the couple’s property in Stony Point. Matt and his wife, Eleanor Waldron, were both burned due to the serious fire.

The man had been working on machinery when his wife realized that he was on fire. When she tried to douse him, she also became burned. Police believe that the fire started due to a small propane heater in the garage that might have become an ignition point.

Matt was originally transported to the hospital but he unfortunately died while there. Eleanor is being treated for burn injuries at this time but she is expected to recover. Police continue their investigation into the matter at this time.
