Ulster, NY – Passenger Hospitalized Following Crash Due to Drunk Driver

Ulster, NY (January 23, 2019) – A motor vehicle accident caused by an allegedly intoxicated driver caused serious injuries to the passenger in that car on Monday, January 21., according to authorities in the town of Ulster. The crash was reported to have taken place at around 2:30 p.m. on Route 9W.

Police stated that 48-year-old Charles E. Appollonia Jr., of Saugerties, had been traveling northbound along the aforementioned road in a 1999 Chevrolet when he crashed the car after overcorrecting a turn. Appollonia had lost control of the vehicle and subsequently went over a guardrail and down an embankment before crashing head-on into a tree.

Emergency medical crews who arrived at the scene alongside police stated that they attended to both Appollonia and one passenger, identified as 47-year-old Keir A. Cashen, also of Saugerties. Cashen was immediately transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Appollonia was not hospitalized but was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, among other charges.
