Wyandanch, NY – Skateboarder Injured in Pedestrian Crash with Police Vehicle
Wyandanch, NY (January 22, 2019) – On Tuesday evening, January 22, a pedestrian on a skateboard was reported to have been struck and seriously injured by a police vehicle. The accident was reported to the authorities to have happened at around 5:10 p.m. along Straight Path in the town of Wyandanch.
According to authorities, the skateboarder, identified only as a 27-year-old man, had been riding northbound in the center turning lane of the aforementioned road at the time. A marked SUV that was responding to a call with its lights on struck the young man in the vicinity of the intersection with South 24th Street.
Emergency medical crews were called to the scene as they quickly transported that man to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries that have been considered non-life-threatening at this time.
The SUV involved has been impounded for a safety check. No further information has been provided.
