Hector, NY – Tragic Farming Accident Claims Life of Burdett Firefighter
Hector, NY (January 17, 2019) – According to the Schuyer County Office of Emergency Management, police were called to the scene of a tragic accident that claimed the life of a member of the Burdett Fire Department. The accident, which may have resulted from faulty equipment, happened on Wednesday morning, January 16, at an unspecified time.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that 51-year-old Jay Arcangeli, of Burdett, was sadly killed during a farming accident on Dolphsburg Road in the town of Hector. The fatal accident happened when Arcangeli became entangled in a power-off unit, which is a machine that is specifically used to transfer power from a tractor to a separate piece of equipment.
Emergency medical crews were called to the accident site following the mishap but were sadly unable to save Arcangeli who was pronounced dead at the scene. No further information has been made available at this time.
