Albion, NY – Update: New Details and Names Released in Explosion and Fire on Elmwood Avenue
Albion, NY (January 17, 2019) – Authorities have released new details along with the names of the couple who were severely injured after an explosion caused a massive fire at a home on Elmwood Avenue Wednesday evening, January 16. According to police, 81-year-old Vincenzo Spampanato and his wife, 71-year-old, Felicia Spampanato are currently in guarded condition in the burn unit at Strong Memorial Hospital after the incident that took place in the village of Albion.
An investigation revealed that the explosion occurred while work was being performed on a gas heating appliance. The accident happened at around 6:30 p.m. and caused a large fire that quickly began to spread throughout the home. Firefighters along with emergency medical crews were quickly dispatched to the scene.
He Spampanatos were immediately rushed to the hospital via ambulance. According to multiple neighbors, the couple had only recently moved into the home, as the cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
