Ulster, NY – Update: Names Released in Pedestrian Crash That Killed One and Injured Another
Ulster, NY (January 16, 2019) – Authorities have released the identities of two people who were struck by a vehicle just after midnight on Sunday, January 13. Jamie Mengel, 36, of Slingerlands tragically died from the injuries she sustained in the collision, and 26-year-old Alexander Terwilligar, of Ulster County, was left with serious injuries, according to police.
Authorities stated that an unidentified, 38-year-old man from Saugerties had been heading home from his job as an Ulster County Jail guard when he struck the pair of pedestrians along Ulster Avenue. Police and paramedics were rushed to the scene where both Mengel and Terwilligar were immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. Mengel was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
Terwilligar was reported to have suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive at this time. Police stated that no charges have been filed as the driver involved was not intoxicated and visibility was poor at the time of the collision. The driver also fully cooperated with authorities following the accident.
No further details have been provided as the events that led to this crash are currently under investigation.
