Pelham Bay, Bronx, NY – Off-Duty NYPD Officer Killed in Collision with Garbage Truck
Pelham Bay, Bronx, NY (January 16, 2019) – A tragic collision between two vehicles took place Wednesday morning, January 16, in the Bronx that sadly left an off-duty NYPD officer with fatal injuries. The accident was reported to have occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Shore Road, according to authorities.
Police have stated that the collision occurred between an NYPD officer and a city Parks Department garbage truck for reasons that are currently unclear. The victim, who has only been identified as a 28-year-old NYPD officer, was stated to have been driving home from his shift when the accident took place.
Paramedics who were called to the scene immediately transported the officer to Jacobi Medical Center where he was tragically pronounced dead a short time later. There has been no word confirming whether or not the driver of the truck was also injured at this time.
Authorities said that serious motor vehicle accidents have been known to occur in the same area before as police are actively investigating all the events that led to this incident.
