Bayside, Queens, NY – Two People Critically Injured in Apartment Fire

Bayside, Queens, NY (January 16, 2018) – A fire that tore through an apartment building in Queens on Tuesday afternoon, January 15, has been reported to have left two people in critical condition. According to authorities, the fire started shortly after 3:00 p.m. in an apartment above an ice cream shop located on Bell Boulevard in the Bayside section.

The flames were stated to have broken out in an apartment attached to a row of buildings and forced dozens of neighboring apartments to be evacuated. A man and a woman who live together in the unit where the fire started were unable to exit the building on their own and rescuers found them unconscious before carrying them out to the street.

Emergency medical crews quickly rushed both parties to separate hospitals where they are being treated for severe burns at this time. Authorities have not determined the cause of the blaze as the incident is actively under investigation.
