South Hempstead, NY – Update: Employee Struck Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver Identified

South Hempstead, NY (January 15, 2019) – The employee who was tragically struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in front of the Pit Stop Gas Station on Monday morning, January 14, has been identified by police. Authorities stated that 59-year-old Cemal Dagdeviren, of Levittown, and a 25-year employee at the gas station.

The fatal incident took place at around 7:30 a.m. on Grand Avenue after a driver operating a dark-colored SUV pulled into the gas station and asked an attendant to pump his gas for him. The attendant added $22 of gasoline to the vehicle but police say the suspect caused a problem after saying that he didn’t have any cash and then offering a fake credit card.

Dagdeviren, who had been the manager, came to assist the attendant when the suspect stepped and the gas, struck Dagdeviren and then fled to scene. Paramedics were quickly called to the scene where they transported Dagdeviren to South Nassau Communities Hospital to be treated. He was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.
