Newburgh, NY – Two People Hospitalized Following Apartment Fire

Newburgh, NY (January 15, 2019) – A two-alarm fire broke out at Joseph A. Fogarty Apartments in Newburgh and resulted in the hospitalization of two people, according to a city assistant fire chief. The blaze was reported to have started at around 10:00 a.m. in the bathroom of the apartment located on Johnson Street.

Authorities stated that the woman who lives in the apartment was able to make it out unharmed. However, one person who lives next door and another who lives down the hall were stated to have suffered injuries in the fire. Firefighters along with emergency medical crews were called to the scene shortly after the fire broke out.

Paramedics transported the two injured parties to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital to be treated for smoke-related injuries. Their conditions are unknown at this time. Authorities are actively conducting a detailed investigation into the events that led to this incident.
