South Hempstead, Long Island, NY – Gas Station Worker Struck and Killed by Delinquent Driver
South Hempstead, Long Island, NY (January 14, 2018) – On Monday morning, January 14, a person who had been attempting to flee a gas station on Long Island without paying was reported to have fatally struck an employee in the parking lot. The deadly collision occurred at around 7:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Grand Avenue.
According to authorities, the incident happened when a dark-colored SUV struck a 59-year-old man in front of the Pit Stop Gas Station. Employees stated that the suspect was attempting to steal &22 in gasoline before hitting the victim and fleeing the area. The SUV was last seen traveling south along Grand Avenue.
Police and paramedics were dispatched to the accident site where they transported the victim, identified only as a 25-year-long employee, originally from Turkey, to a local hospital. The man was tragically pronounced dead a short time later and is survived by his wife and two sons.
