Milton, NY – Two Hurt When Car Crashes into Ulster County Deli

Milton, NY (January 14, 2019) – A man who was reported to have fallen asleep behind the wheel, ended up crashing into a ditch that sent the vehicle crashing into a deli on Saturday morning, January 12. The incident was reported to have occurred at around 7:30 a.m. and injured the driver, as well as a person who was inside the establishment at the time.

According to police, 25-year-old Jamel Donaldson had been traveling southbound along Route 9W when he was stated to have fallen asleep, veered off the roadway and striking a ditch before crashing into Kirky’s Deli located in Milton. The owner of the deli, Robert Kirk, had been standing inside the building with one employee and about five customers at the time of the crash.

Police along with paramedics were called to the scene where they transported Donaldson, as well as one customer who had been struck by debris, to a local hospital with at least minor injuries. The events that led to this incident are currently being investigated.
