Copiague, NY – Female Loses Life in Parking Lot from Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Copiague, NY (January 13, 2019) – Around 4 p.m. yesterday, January 12, a female pedestrian was tragically killed in a pedestrian accident that took place in a parking lot. The female has since been identified by police as 55-year-old Valentyna Todorovych.

The victim had been struck by a 2001 Honda Civic around 4 p.m. as the car was backing out of a parking space in a lot at 870 Merrick Road. The driver told police that they accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake. The woman was then struck before the vehicle also hit three other parked vehicles.

The woman was pinned beneath the car. Several people lifted the vehicle off of the woman before emergency services came to the scene. The victim was first transported to the hospital before she was pronounced deceased.

The driver has not yet been identified. Police are still speaking with many people and investigating the accident.
