Brooklyn, NY – One Person Critically Injured in Serious Bicycle Accident

Brooklyn, NY (January 12, 2019) – A Jewish bicyclist was critically injured following a serious bicycle accident where a cyclist ran into the open door of a vehicle. The operator of the vehicle opened the door just as the cyclist was passing by.

People are calling this phenomenon “dooring,” where a vehicle driver intentionally or unintentionally opens a vehicle door in front of a bicyclist who is coming down the sidewalk. Even at low speeds, these accidents are known to be quite tragic.

The cyclist who received injuries in this accident was not identified, though they suffered from traumatic arrest after the collision on East 2nd Street and Avenue I. They were taken to the hospital with a variety of serious injuries.

Witnesses say that the cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Police have reported that the cyclist was hospitalized with critical injuries but is in stable condition at this time.

They continue to investigate the scene of the accident.
