Upper East Side, Manhattan, NY – Man Injured When Concrete Slab Falls on Apartment Building
Upper East Side, Manhattan, NY (January 10, 2019) – On Wednesday night, January 9, a concrete slab fell from a construction site onto an apartment, subsequently injuring one of the residents. The accident was reported to have taken place at around 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Third Avenue and East 63rd Street.
According to authorities, a concrete wall partially collapsed on the 26th floor of a building that is currently under construction at 1059 Third Avenue. The debris from the incident crashed onto the roof of an apartment building located on East 63rd Street. Some of that debris crashed into an apartment and almost directly on top of a man who was in the shower at the time.
34-year-old Steven Jones suffered at least minor injuries due to the accident, although there was no word as to whether or not he was hospitalized. A similar incident occurred about one month ago at the same location, prompting a stop work order that was later lifted as violations seemed to have been corrected.
This incident is currently under investigation.
