Hamlin, NY – House Fire on Walker Lake Ontario Road Claims One Life

Hamlin, NY (January 10, 2019) – One person was tragically killed in a fire that was reported to have broken out at a home on Walker Lake Ontario Road. The fire occurred early on Thursday morning, January 10, at around 2:00 a.m. near Church Road in the town of Hamlin.

Two people were reported to be the only individuals who live at the residence that caught fire and prompted responses from the Hamlin Morton Walker Fire Department, as well as police and paramedics. One male resident woke up to the smoke and left the house to call 911. Unfortunately, the other occupant was still inside as flames had engulfed the home by the time that fire crews arrived.

The fire chief stated that weather made fighting the fire far more difficult while also making it more difficult for crews to drive to the location. The individual who had been inside sadly died in the fire. That individual has not been identified at this time.

Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the blaze.
