Staten Island, NY – Update: One Identified in Crash that Injured Two Officers

Staten Island, NY (January 7, 2019) – Police have now released the identity of the man who injured a civilian in a multi-vehicle crash that also left two officers wounded on Saturday night, January 5. 35-year-old Jermaine Leone was reported to have caused the collision between himself and several other vehicles as he also attempted to evade officers.

The incident began at around 10:00 p.m. when officers pulled over Leone for at least three traffic violation along Broadway and Castleton Avenue in West Brighton. After failing to produce documentation, Leone attempted to speed away from the officers, driving right through a steady red light and causing a collision at the intersection.

After the crash, Leone was stated to have exited his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot but was arrested only moments later. Two officers involved in the incident were reported to have suffered minor wounds as one civilian was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton with unspecified injuries.
