Round Lake, NY – Elderly Pedestrian Struck and Killed while Checking Mail
Round Lake, NY (January 7, 2019) – A 92-year-old man was tragically struck and killed by a motor vehicle in front of his home on Eastline Road in Ballston, according to authorities. The accident occurred on Saturday evening, January 5, as the victim, identified as Robert Downing, was walking across the street to check the mail.
Police and paramedics were sent to the scene after getting a call regarding the accident. Upon their arrival, responders found Downing severely injured, although it was not mentioned as to whether or not he was transported to a hospital or pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors and lifelong friends of Downing stated that he had lived there his entire life as a diligent farmer and that he will be terribly missed. The driver involved in the accident was reported to have remained at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. No charges have been filed at this time.
