Long Beach, NY – Update: Name Released of Woman from Pedestrian Accident
Long Beach, NY (January 5, 2019) – Earlier, we reported on a pedestrian accident that took the life of one woman and left her husband in critical condition in Long Beach. The accident took place early today when she and her husband had been crossing the street.
Police responded to the accident around 12:30 a.m. at East Park Avenue to find that a 22-year-old unidentified volunteer firefighter had been responding to a call about a house fire. It was alleged that he was driving quickly in his 1999 Buick Century and had his emergency lights turned on at the time.
The woman, identified as 57-year-old Julia Morales, was walking with her 60-year-old husband after leaving the Half Moon Bar and Grill. The name of the injured husband has not yet been released.
The Buick had been traveling west when it struck the duo who had been walking together across the street at the time. Morales was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene and her husband was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but has since been stabilized.
At this time, police are not sure if the firefighter was speeding but they are working on their investigation into the incident.
