Brewster, NY – Update: Authorities Release Details and Identities Regarding Wong-Way Crash on I-84

Brewster, NY (January 3, 2019) – Police have now released more details concerning the wrong-way driver who caused a serious head-on crash with injuries on Interstate 84 Wednesday morning, January 2. 45-year-old Christopher S. Franz, of Broomall, PA, was arrested following the crash on charges for driving while ability impaired by drugs, according to authorities.

The accident occurred on the eastbound side of the interstate on the Exit 19 ramp toward State Route 312 at around 8:20 a.m. Franz had been operating a 2017 Jeep Cherokee when he entered the interstate in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a 2016 Toyota pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck has now been identified as 46-year-old Moises Rios Castro, of Carmel, who had been traveling with an unidentified child passenger.

Paramedics who arrived at the scene immediately transported all three parties to Danbury Hospital with at least minor injuries. Franz has since been released from the hospital and has been arrested remanded to Putnam County Jail. There has been no information provided on the current conditions of the other two parties involved.
