West Islip, NY – Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver on Lowell Avenue

West Islip, NY (January 1, 2019) – One person was tragically struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Tuesday afternoon, January 1, in Central Islip. According to authorities, a man was hit by a vehicle on Lowell Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. for reasons that have not yet been determined.

Police were dispatched to the crash site, a little north of Cypress Street, along with paramedics in order to assess the incident and render aid to the victim. Tragically, the victim, who has now been identified as 22-year-old Taekwon Campbell, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle involved did not stop to help Campbell or cooperate with authorities but fled the scene immediately after impact. There has been no description released of the vehicle involved as police are asking anyone with any information to please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
