New York City, NY – Wrong-Way Driver Causes Injurious Crash on Long Island Parkway

New York City, NY (December 19, 2018) – A crash occurred on the Long Island Parkway Tuesday night, December 18, that was reported to have been caused by a wrong-way driver with dementia. According to authorities, the accident happened at around 10:22 p.m. when a driver entered the expressway in the wrong direction and subsequently caused a collision that injured himself and two others.

Police stated that 82-year-old Burgess E. Moore had been heading north in the southbound lanes of the Wantagh State Parkway when he collided head-on with a 2007 Toyota Rav4. A third vehicle became involved when it was unable to avoid the initial accident and struck the rear of the Toyota.

Moore was immediately transported to a local hospital for a broken hip and facial injuries. His condition is listed as critical at this time. Both drivers of the other two vehicles involved were also hospitalized with injuries that are considered minor.

According to authorities, Moore, a resident of New Britain, Connecticut, suffers from dementia and was recently reported missing. No further information has been provided.
