Schenectady, NY – One Seriously Injured in Fire on Van Vranken Avenue

Schenectady, NY (December 17, 2018) – Several people have been affected by a fire that took place during the early morning hours on Sunday, December 16, according to officials. The Red Cross is currently assisting at least five people who have been displaced as a result of the incident. One person was severely injured and one firefighter suffered minor wounds during the blaze that started around 4:00 a.m.

Police are actively investigating the cause of the fire which occurred at a two-story, eight-unit apartment building located at the intersection of Van Vranken Avenue and Salina Street in Schenectady. Firefighters who arrived on the scene were reported to have pulled one man from the fire. That individual was subsequently hospitalized with serious injuries, according to authorities.

Officials also stated that one firefighter suffered at least minor burns during the incident and was released after being treated. The cause of the fire is unknown and investigators are working to establish the events that led to the fire.
